Gorlok and Salyri

And we're back to Nurgle with this post.

I was going to post this pair of Nurglites separately but as either post is very short, I just stuck them together. Both are 3D prints I got from Etsy and neither one is supposed to be members of Grandfather's following. In fact, neither one of them started off as Nurgle followers. I just thought they'd work well as part of my ever-growing plague army.

Gorlok was once the mighty steed of a Khorne champion called Kraghyr Scalpbane. Once Scalpbane had been killed in battle, Fecalus tamed Gorlok and then used his powers to dissemble the horse and recreate it in Nurgle's name. Its hide roughly stitched together, its decaying skin stuffed with rotting lengths of rope and rusting nails hammered into its dried flesh, Gorlok now serves the Plague God, charging down and over enemies on the battlefield while spreading disease wherever it treads.

As for the actual painting, I kicked off by priming Gorlok with light grey and then giving it a couple of coats of Pallid Wych Flesh for a pale look. This was then washed a couple of times with Mortarion Grime shade to give a pale green decaying look, with some thinned Plaguebearer Flesh painted into the deeper areas to shade them better.

Each of the stitches were painted with Chocolate Brown and given a little highlight with Flat Earth, and the scars were lined with Vallejo Red Wash to make them look like open wounds.

The ropes replacing Gorlok's tail and mane are Death Guard Green shaded with Athonian Camoshade and then highlighted with Skarsnik Green. The ropes he's been stuffed with are Royal Purple highlighted with Hexed Lichen.

Finally, I added a small area of Bonewhite to the exposed part of his jaw and he was done.

I'm really happy with how he looks; the lighter, sickly green makes a change from the usual shade associated with Nurgle and it's such an interesting model that I had to buy it. I have no idea what it's supposed to be used for, but he's now following the Lord of Plagues.

Tall, elegant, and a formidable swordswoman, Salyri was once the leader of a Slaanesh warband which also lost a skirmish to Fecalus' army. Mortally wounded after being attacked by a vomit beast, Salyri was horrified to be nurtured back to life by several plaguebearers acting on Fecalus' orders. 

But far from being treated with germ-killing balms, Salyri was treated with germ-killing germs, turning her from a once-beautiful pale-skinned woman into a diseased mess, her long red hair now a bony extension of her skull. Even her immaculate purple-and-gold armour is being overrun with rot, slowly turning a sickly shade as Fecalus' medicine works on every aspect of her body and soul.

Despite her once being a devoted follower of the Prince of Pleasure, after decades of service to the Lord of Decay Salyri now embraces her role as a bringer of Nurgle's Gifts to anyone unlucky enough to come across her.

Salyri was primed all over with Neutral Grey before being utterly slathered with Plaguebearer Flesh contrast. She got a wash with thinned Agrax Earthshade to darken the green, and was then drybrushed with Death Guard Green and Elysian Green to highlight her.

The teeth edging her... skin? armour?... are just Wraithbone shaded with Seraphim Sepia and highlighted with Bonewhite and Off-White. 

Her armour was actually painted with Hexed Lichen and Retributor Armour before I gave it a few coats of Mortarion Grime to get the effect of it slowly tarnishing.

Salyri's awesome twisty sword is just Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade over Iron Warriors. 

Both Gorlok and Salyri are based in my usual way for Nurgle minis: a bit of cork painted with Black, Ork Flesh, Moot Green and Green Yellow, decorated with 3D-printed maggots and plastered in UV resin tinted with more Green Yellow.

I'm really pleased with both these models. They're certainly unusual and stand out on my shelf, and they both look really good painted up as servants of Nurgle.

A bigger project is coming

A few weeks ago I sold some shares left to me by my parents. This gave me enough money for Alicia to pay off a credit card and for me to go what can only be described as nucking futs on Etsy. One of the items I bought was a figure called a Daemon Walker Knight, basically a corrupted Imperial Knight. I do already own two other knights, one Nurgle and one Slaanesh, and so I thought $25 and free shipping was an incredibly reasonable price for a third one. 

Then it showed up in the mail.

You're not seeing things; this is one leg next to a basic Space Marine. This thing is going to be HUGE, so I guess it's lucky I also used some of the cash to buy a new airbrush.

I don't know when I'm going to start on this project as it's going to take some planning. Thankfully it came with a base that's six inches across so at least I won't have to bugger about trying to find something to superglue it to whenever I finish it.
