PTCYAO! Whitney, Anime Heroine

Whitney is my last unpainted Reaper anime heroine. I got her in 2020 along with Sugar and Candy, both of whom are painted (for some reason Candy's never made it to this site). Anyway, with Paint The Crap You Already Own! still running I decided it was about time I painted Whitney.

The first bit of fun and games was discovering that, thanks to my habit of snipping off slotta tabs, there was about 1mm of metal to glue her to a temporary base. Needless to say she fell off three times during painting.

She was pretty easy to paint, and I don't know why I didn't get her done a year ago. I went for a sailor-type look for Whitney using White and my new pot of Blue (I have about 11 shades of blue, but not actual blue). I thought about an anime-style hair colour like pink or green but bottled out and just went with Black, highlighted with Violet. I tried to go with a translucent look for her stockings, with thinned Off-White over the skin, but it looked a mess so I ended up painting them solid white.

Even though I'm not a fan of dual-wield sculpts, her post is so dynamic that I actually like it. She's based on one of the road-type bases I made the other day, and I had a hell of a job getting her to stick. Whitney's been added to my collection of survivors but I don't think I'll be picking her up too often.

  1. Great work Matt, has a Sailor Moon vibe to the model. If your ever try ink white stockings again, start with white ink, then add 3 parts water, should give you the consistency your looking for

    1. Sailor Moon! That's what inspired her look. Thanks, Dave!

I will try that for white stockings. I thought about doing them in black wash like I did for one of my zombie strippers, but wanted to keep the white look.

  2. lovely work, and a nice fig too! Stocking are always a bit of a pain to do, I tend to use a thin wash over a grey or flesh coloured undercoat.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. The stockings looked OK when the paint was wet, but it dried pretty blotchy so I painted over them.

  3. She reminds me of Sailor Moon as well! I didn't realize that Reaper did anime style sculpts which is cool of them. I'm not a huge anime fan but I appreciate the style and think it works well in miniature form. I agree on the pose as well. Its very dynamic and cool looking!

    1. Thanks! She is a pretty cool mini, and I do like reaper's anime girls despite not liking anime lol.

  4. She look grand -- and I love the background too. It perfectly accents her outfit.
I agree that the Reaper dual-wields are often a little much. But because you've chosen a simple color-scheme, everything about this mini really works.

    1. Thanks, matey! I appreciate that. The background is one of my 3D-printed walls that's become the go-to for my photos.
