Undead Horde: Grave Wraiths

Another unit of my Undead Horde is done, and I'm pretty proud of these guys.

Of course, being me I was most of the way through finishing the last one when I thought, "wait, these guys are wraiths, should I have painted them in ghostly colours?" But by then it was too late, and they look pretty good in classic Death outfits.

Each was primed black and then their cloaks were painted over with Black. Thrilling. Just to speed things up a bit I used Black Legion contrast over the primer.

Their robes were then highlighted using light drybrushes of German Grey, Neutral Grey and Celestra Grey. On the one hand I wanted to bring out the details, but on the other I wanted to keep them dark and scary.

All the bones were basecoated with Forest Skin, a dark tan colour, given a once-over with Skeleton Horde contrast and then drybrushed with some more Forest Skin. After that it was just a case of highlighting them with Morghast Bone to get the look I was after.

All the scythes were painted quickly with Snakebite Leather contrast and given a light drybrush with Chocolate Brown. The blades are Runefang Steel as I wanted something a bit shinier than Iron Warriors, which is what I usually use for metals. Any decorative bits were based with Retributor Armour and highlighted with Vallejo Old Gold.

Each wraith is standing on a gravestone, so these were painted in various greys and washed with Agrax Earthshade and Athonian Camoshade.

Finally I based them the usual way, with a couple of layers of flock mix and a tuft.

The wraiths were pretty easy to paint and I banged all of them out in an afternoon. They look really good and are a great addition to the horde.

More soon!
