Zombtober: Undead Horde: Zombies

Twenty zombies, all done in record time thanks to the magic of contrast paints!

I went with mainly contrast paints to speed things up a bit (well, a lot) and get the unit done quickly. Unfortunately this gave me a limited palette as most of my contrasts tend to be the pinks and purple of Slaanesh or the greens and browns of Nurgle. I do have a couple of blues and reds, but that's about it.

All the minis were glued to 25mm square bases and primed with Neutral Grey. I kicked off by doing all the flesh first, using Plaguebearer Flesh contrast which meant I slammed through all 20 in no time. I varied the skin tones by washing them with various colours including violet, brown, blue, grey and green and then highlighting them with Death Guard Green or Dead Flesh. All their eyes were given a dab of White and then gone over with some Hexwraith Flame for that glowing green look.

Any bone areas were, like my Mounted Wights, based with Forest Flesh, shaded with Skeleton Horde and then highlighted with Screaming Skull.

As with my earlier zombie and zombie apocalypse survivor figures I had a hell of a time choosing colours for their clothes and at one point I started closing my eyes and picking up random pots of paint just to hurry things along. Pretty much the only non-contrast paints I used were the metallics, basically just Iron Warriors, Runefang Steel and Brass, as well as Off-White and some browns.

Here's another banner of which I'm immensely proud, although I hasten to add that the design is embossed onto the resin. There's no way I could have freehanded that. The design is ripped off a 4th-edition zombie standard bearer so I just copied the colours, using a lot of yellows and oranges for the flames.

To finish them off I just covered their bases in a couple of layers of flock, sealed it with thinned matte varnish and added a tuft.

So the Undead Horde grows by another unit! Coming soon: the Vampire Count, necromancer, grave wraiths, banshee and all the skellies. As usual, stay tuned!
