Snazbrug, goblin warrior

After being buggered about by Etsy's terrible package tracking system, this chap finally turned up Monday just in time for me to paint him on Tuesday, which was a day off that I didn't even realise I was getting.

Snazbrug, as I've named him, is a mini by Avatars of War, the same company that designed Owen. He suits the swamp troll really well and despite my worries is actually tall enough to see over the top of Owen's howdah. And I apologise for the potato quality photos but I just can't seem to get my phone camera to do these minis justice.

The good news for my reader(s) is that Snazzers was a doddle to paint, so this is going to be a short post.

I didn't want Snazbrug to be the same saturated greens as Owen so he'd stand out better, so after a prime of Neutral Grey and a light drybrush of Celestra Grey all his skin was given two thin coats of Plaguebearer Flesh.

Ignore the blue stuff under his feet, that's just poster putty holding him to a temporary base.

He's covered in armour so 80% of the painting was slapping on Iron Warriors, Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade and then drybrushing with a little bit of Leadbelcher. I added some orangey-brown rust with Gryph-Hound contrast and then did his belts with Mahogany Brown and some Squig Orange.

His boots and the haft of his nasty sword are just Snakebite Leather contrast. I'm well happy with his hair, which is Incubi Darkness highlighted with Emerald Green and Sotek Green.

After painting his tongue Screamer Pink and Pink Horror and adding some Athonian Camoshade to the recesses to up the shadows, he was done. I think he took less than an hour, which for me is amazing.

As you can see, he can just about see over the edge of the howdah.

He does look a bit lost on his own so I'm going to get another goblin figure to join him. Avatars of War does a range of these goblins so finding a friend for Snazbrug shouldn't be too difficult.

Here's a full shot of Owen and Snazbrug. You can see how large the troll model is compared to a 32mm mini.

Stay tuned for more soon!

  5. That's a very nice addition to the swamp troll, Matt! I love minis like this which are multi-level and there's a bunch of warriors on top of a bigger beast. One of these days, I oughta pick up a mini like this one that GW makes and give it a go! I look forward to seeing who joins the gobbo in charge above the troll too!

    1. Whopping minis like Owen are among my faves too, Jeff. I find them easier to paint than regular 32mm minis and the detail on them makes them really stand out.
