I knocked out this trio of glutinous horrors last year and I love them.
These are 3D-printed proxies designed by Orc King which cost about $25 for the set, compared to $58 for the official GW model. That's "model" singular.
One of the things I love about Nurgle is how jolly and full of life its daemons are. Well, apart from plaguebearers, which are miserable gits. Beasts are no exception and despite their horrendous appearance they have the excitability and friendliness of a puppy. Beasts will head straight towards whichever random mortal they've decided to be friends with and affectionately slobber all over it which, as they're filled to the brim with every disease known to humankind (and several that aren't) usually leaves the victim dead in a matter of minutes. The Beast, saddened by the unresponsiveness of its new friend, will then waddle off looking for another playmate.
All three of these 'orrible things were primed with Neutral Grey and slathered with Plaguebearer Flesh contrast to get the greens going. I daubed on some Nazdreg Yellow in random places to alter the colour tones a bit, and used it to give their bellies a lighter tone. I added some Athonian Camoshade to deepen the shadows in places.
Their weird and wonderful tubes sticking out of their heads were gone over with a couple of coats of Volupus Pink contrast and given extra highlights with Wizard's Robe. All their many magnificent boils were dabbed with Beserker Bloodshade to make them look sore, and then given a dot of Pallid Wytch Flesh for a nice pus effect. Their nails and teeth are Skeleton Bone over Green Ochre, and washed with Agrax Earthshade.
The only things I'm disappointed with are their eyes, which I did pretty simply with Blood Angels Red contrast and Black for the pupils. Looking at them months later, I might redo them at some point.
Here's a rear view, not that you'd really want to see this. All the bases are the usual cork tile plastered with tinted UV resin and some maggots.
They really are great models with tons of detail and, like all Nurgle daemons, have a personality. I'm very happy with how they turned out, especially given that I made up most of the colour scheme as I went along.
Excellent work on your beasts Matt, they definitely look putrid and full of rot.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dave, that's exactly the look I was going for :-)
DeleteSlimy looking and appropriately so. Are you planning a game for all these lovely Nurgle daemons?
ReplyDeleteCheers, Dai! I'm hoping to do something with them as I've posted barely half of my Nurgle army so far.
DeleteOhh, these are quite original and you made them look great. Eeeek, kinda scary!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Suber! Beasts of Nurgle are some of the most unique-looking daemons around and these 3D prints are just as good as the GW originals.
DeleteFoul, revolting, and hideous are a few compliments that come to mind here ;) I think these came out great and they really do look similar to GW's designs without just mimicking them. 2025 has been the year of the demon for you! You've really gotten a lot of the chaotic beings done so far and we're only halfway through at this point!
ReplyDeleteYay, I did good! Thanks, Jeff, I've done a lot of daemons this year (not all Nurgle ones) and it's been a lot of fun. These models are great and I've always liked Beasts of Nurgle for their puppy-like qualities.
